The lake at the west of the Lake District is often unnoticed however; remote Ennerdale it is a hidden gem that should be acknowledged for its scenery and that it is a perfect Open Space For Dog Walkers.
Maps of the area are available at tourist centres, and at the Bowness Knott car park. The lake isn’t far down the cycle path from Whitehaven to Rowrah, which leads through small roads into Ennerdale.
You can get to the lake on the western shore however, there is no vehicle access on the eastern side – this means that there will be less people and makes it the perfect environment for dog walkers. Author Peter Naldrett says that those "who want a lengthy challenge for their dog cannot fail to be impressed by this gorgeous circular walk around the lake".
At just over seven miles, it is unquestionably on the long side. However, this is justified with the views of the wonderful landscape, a great photo stop for photographers as well as dog walkers!
