Remote Roman Fort in Hardknott

If you head up Hardknott Pass in Cumbria, (one of the steepest roads in England) you will come across an old and remote Roman fort. The fort was built when Hadrian was in power of the Roman Empire.

It’s a long windey road through the pass so your driving skills will be tested! If you see the fort on a day with blue sky then the hard-driving will be worth it as you might be able to just see the Isle of Man from the top! Then again, if you arrive at the spot on a damp, murky day then you might give a thought of how the Romans would’ve felt when they arrived all those years ago.

To find out more about the outpost, you can head to the official website here.

After you’ve had your historical day out at Hardknott Pass looking at the old Roman ruins, why not come to the Hawksmoor to have a great night’s sleep and award-winning breakfast.
