If you're a fan of classic cars, the Lake District is the place to be on 7th November, when the annual Vintage Sports Car Club Lakeland Trial takes place.
Around 100 pre-second world war vehicles are tested to the limit along gravel roads and hairpin bends at 2,100ft on Fleetwith Pike. The annual spectacle, now in its 47th year, includes vintage vehicles, such as a stunning, 4.5-litre, 1925 Bentley; a bright red, 1921 Fiat 501S Biposto and even a classic Bugatti sports car. The oldest vehicle dates from 1903.
Among the challenges on the testing route is the steep and rocky Drumhouse section at Honister Slate Mine. Each car has a driver and one passenger, nicknamed a "bouncer" because, quite literally, they bounce up and down to help the car on its way!
If you're one of the hundreds of enthusiasts joining the classic car spectacle and looking for luxury Lake District B&B accommodation, contact us here at the Hawksmoor Lakeland Guest House, where you'll start the day with a delicious breakfast, ranging from a sumptuous fruit salad to a traditional full English.
