AQUARIUM OF THE LAKES (LAKESIDE)

Lakes Aquarium on the southern shore of Windermere. Explore the lakes of the world and discover incredible creatures. Here you can see pike, otters, harvest mice, bank voles and many other creatures.

BLACKWELL, THE ARTS & CRAFTS HOUSE (BOWNESS)

Blackwell is a rare architectural gem, offering a perfectly preserved snapshot of early 20th-century living.
Designed by noted architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, this Grade I listed building is one of the UK’s finest examples of Arts & Crafts architecture, and is a practice that is inspired by the natural world, while embracing traditional craft skills in an age of increasing mechanisation and mass production.

BROCKHOLE, VISITORS CENTRE (WINDERMERE)

Idyllically situated on the shores of Windermere, and admission is free, though you have to pay for the car park. There are interactive exhibitions, the Mawson gardens, an adventure playground, a shop, cafe and information centre. You can enjoy lake shore access, and catch a cruise to or from Waterhead (the northern end of the lake, a short distance from Ambleside.

GRIZEDALE FOREST

Breath-taking views, stunning artwork and endless forest trails, come and discover all that Grizedale has to offer!
Explore the forest on two wheels, foot or horse back and keep your eyes peeled along the way for our unique sculptures which are dotted throughout the forest. For more of a challenge, test your nerve and swing among the trees on one of our Go Ape courses.

HILL TOP (NEAR SAWREY)

Beatrix Potter’s 17th-century farmhouse: a time-capsule of her life, she wrote many of her children’s stories in this small 17th century farmhouse. It’s been kept exactly as she left it, complete with her furniture, china and a traditional cottage garden.

HONISTER SLATE MINES

Located at the head of Honister Pass in the centre of the Lake District, Honister Slate Mine offers a range of indoor and outdoor adventures for a range of ages and abilities. Honister is also the last working slate mine in England and home to the iconic Westmorland Green Slate.

LAKELAND MOTOR MUSEUM

Explore our fascinating collection of over 30,000 exhibits that trace the development of road transport throughout the twentieth century – cycles, motorbikes, motor cars and automobilia.
Housed in a converted mill in the heart of the Lake District, we’re minutes from Lake Windermere.
Much more than just a motor museum, our local history and period shopping displays, authentic recreations and picturesque riverside cafe makes it a great day out for the whole family.

LEVENS HALL & TOPIARY GARDENS (NEAR KENDAL)

This is an Elizabethan house, home of the Bagot family, containing Jacobean furniture, superb plasterwork and wonderful panelling. It has very impressive and enjoyable Topiary Gardens, first laid out in 1694, with wonderful herbaceous borders and a fountain garden.

LOW SIZERGH BARN, FARM SHOP, TEA ROOM AND CRAFT GALLERY (NEAR KENDAL)

Everything at Low Sizergh Barn, from the wildflower meadow, to the farm shop full of sumptuous local produce, exemplifies the Park family’s philosophy that a properly run farm can enrich the lives and environment of the whole community. You can enjoy a vast range of cheeses, fresh farm produce, cakes, sweets and biscuits, and find some truly delicious organic ready meals, ready prepared for you to take home.
They also have a trail around the organic dairy farm.

MUNCASTER CASTLE (RAVENGLASS)

Muncaster Castle near Ravenglass is a great day out , as well as the Castle there is a Hawk and Owl centre and a play area with a Meadowvole maze for the children. Take the hairy drive over Hardknott Pass to get there for extra adventure.

QUAKER TAPESTRY EXHIBITION CENTRE (KENDAL)

350 years of social history and Quaker stories are brought to life in more than 40 vibrant embroidered panels, housed within this architecturally stunning and original Georgian Meeting House in the traditional Lakeland market town of Kendal.

RAVENGLASS AND ESKDALE RAILWAY (RAVENGLASS)

Join us as we journey from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the UNESCO World Heritage site, Lake District National Park. Travel across the estuary, through the hills, past seven request stops with a 1:40 gradient at times, en route to our final destination some seven miles up the line to Dalegarth for Boot Station.

RYDAL MOUNT AND GARDENS (NEAR AMBLESIDE)

This was William Wordsworth’s best loved family home for the greater part of his life from 1813 to his death in 1850 at the age of 80. The house, which was a focus for romantic literature, continues to be owned by the Wordsworth family and retains the feel of a lived in family home.

WINDERMERE LAKE CRUISES (ALL ALONG THE LAKE)

Welcome to Windermere Lake Cruises – the most popular attraction in Cumbria. Windermere is England’s largest lake, in the heart of the Lake District. We offer stunning circular cruises every day on historic ‘steamers’ and modern launches.
No matter where you start your journey, be it Bowness, Ambleside or Lakeside the spectacular voyage gives the traveller magnificent views of mountain scenery, secluded bays and the many wooded islands.

The boats operate every day between Ambleside, Bowness and Lake Side, near Newby Bridge. WORDSWORTH GRASMERE/DOVE COTTAGE

William Wordsworth is Britain’s most famous poet. His thoughts and writing about man, nature and society are so relevant, they could have been written yesterday. Whilst living at Dove Cottage, Wordsworth produced most of his greatest and best-loved poems, and his sister Dorothy kept her fascinating Grasmere journal.

WORLD OF BEATRIX POTTER ATTRACTION (BOWNESS)

The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in the Lake District celebrates everything about Beatrix Potter – the English author and illustrator who is best known for her imaginative children’s books, the most famous of all being the Tale of Peter Rabbit.
Beatrix Potter wrote 23 enchanting stories which the Attraction brings to life in a magical recreation of the Lake District countryside.
